iM: WIRED – 100 Episodes And Counting….

Landmark episode #100 drops online for The Indie Machine's live video series: WIRED.
September 21, 2011

When it comes to The Indie Machine, David and I thought that 10 episodes of our in-studio live-to-air acoustic sessions series was a landmark back when we dropped numero dix back in June 2010. I can actually recall the celebratory hand shake that we did, which would eventually evolve into the intricate – and ridiculously nerdy thing that we do now… when no one’s around to criticize us.

Today though we dropped the true hallmark moment of our video endeavours, with episode 100 of our live in-venue series WIRED – courtesy of most excellent Toronto piano pop-rock quartet Petty Victories (you can check it out in the embed below – read up on the band here).

The WIRED video series has evolved a lot since we started close to a year and a half ago. I’m currently reflecting on the conversation that David and I had as we tried to name the thing, as most people start out with a live series and switch to acoustic sessions; in doing the opposite we found we lacked a name that would give the platform weight – eventually we settled on WIRED with the idea of jacking into an amplifier instead of the acoustic style we’d grown accustomed to working on.

The iM logo change fell into place at around episode 18 or so during NXNE 2010, and the addition of soundboard audio in place of on-board camera audio with episode 40. The HD video jump at episode 79 was probably the most prominent change, though unlike other music video websites on the net who use a multi-camera setup we currently maintain a single camera with a constantly moving/zooming/re-focusing style to help the viewer imagine that they’re witnessing the performance themselves; their attention drifting back and forth across the stage where the live action flows.

We’re not sure where to go from here exactly where WIRED is concerned, though we have a couple new video series’ ideas in the bank that we’re hoping to launch soon to continue our video onslaught of the Toronto/Canada/International music scene.
